Fibonacci system, strategy for playing roulette

The Fibonacci system or the Fibonacci strategy is one of the best-known and oldest strategies. The Fibonacci sequence was discovered by Italian mathematician Leonardo Pisano in the 12th century. The Fibonacci sequence is calculated as the sum of the previous two numbers, so 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13 and so on. The sequence of numbers is used when playing roulette for increasing bets on red or black numbers and when trading on stock markets.

Basic principles of the Fibonacci system when playing roulette

We place a first bet of €1. If we win, we earn a profit of €1 and start again from the beginning. If we lose, we use the first number of the sequence (in our case, 1). We move up the Fibonacci sequence for each losing bet and place our next bet using the next number in the sequence. After a win, we cross off the last 2 numbers from the sequence. We end the series when we have crossed off all of the numbers in the sequence. For example:

  • 1st bet on black for €1, result is red, meaning a loss
    • We enter the first number in the sequence: 1
    • Our balance is -€1
  • 2nd bet on black for €1, result is red, meaning a loss
    • We enter the second number in the sequence: 1, 1
    • Our balance is -€2
  • 3rd bet on black for €2, result is red, meaning a loss
    • We enter the next number in the sequence: 1, 1, 2
    • Our balance is -€4
  • 4th bet on black for €3, result is black, meaning a win
    • We cross off the last 2 numbers, with the rest remaining: 1
    • Our balance is -€1
  • 5th bet on black for €1, result is red, meaning a loss
    • We enter the next number in the sequence: 1, 1
    • Our balance is -€2
  • 6th bet on black for €2, result is black, meaning a win
    • We cross off both numbers, or the entire sequence
    • Our balance is €0

We have crossed off the entire sequence so we start again from the beginning.

Advantages and disadvantages of using the Fibonacci strategy for playing roulette

From the progression of bets using the Fibonacci system we can see that profits are only earned when we win on the first bet. In the opposite case the sequence ends with a profit of 0. This is a very efficient strategy for players who play roulette for fun. Don't expect high profits in a short amount of time when using this strategy.
